THE LITTLE THEATRE SCREEN
Published in 1994 as a tribute to Chicago Children's television, this one-shot would become legendary as the definitive "BJ and Dirty Dragon" collectible. Edited and designed by Steve Smith and Jim Engel, an authority of children's television, THE LITTLE THEATRE SCREEN was a staple at the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago.
MONSTERSCENE
From 1992 to 1998, Steve Smith served as co-publisher, editor-in-chief, and designer of this highly regarded classic horror film magazine. Legendary editor of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, "Uncle" Forry Ackerman, called MONSTERSCENE the most loving tribute to his magazine he'd ever read. FM cover artist Basil Gogos created original covers for eight of the eleven issues.
DEAD HEAT
Published over a decade ago by Mojo Press in Austin, TX, this Del Stone Jr novel, based on a story set in the "Deadworld" universe by Dave Dorman, featured art by Dorman and Scott Hampton. Steve Smith provided the book design.
THE UNINVITED
Published by Dave Dorman and featuring his "Wasted ALnds" characters, this tale, written by Del Stone Jr., and illustrated by Jon Foster, is an exploration into the world of diesel punk. Steve Smith designed this book.
WEREWOLVES: DEAD MOON RISING
Moonstone Publishing released this book in 2007 featuring Steve's short story about Mexican wrestlers and werewolf roller derby girls.
GAME ON
In 2004-2006 Steve wrote eight upper elementary novels for Standard Publishing, a leader in the Christian market. The original concept was an extreme sports series, but the editors won out and asked Steve to write six stories involving traditional sports settings while two, DOWNHILL CHALLENGE and RIVALS ON THE WAVES had snowboarding and surfing themes respectively. The books remain strong sellers in the school book fair market.
ROLLING THUNDER: THE ART OF DAVE DORMAN
Dave Dorman and Steve Smith have worked side by side since 1993 and were friends for years before that. This book from IDW was released in Sept 2010 and has received accolades from reviewers and booksellers alike. Steve contributed the foreword and editing to this project.
THE ART OF BASIL GOGOS
Author Kerry Gammill asked Steve Smith to contribute a chapter to this collection of the best works by Basil, whose internationally recognizable monster art graced the covers of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND magazine for thirty years and the covers of MONSTERSCENE, Steve Smith's magazine, in the 1990s. The book was published in 2009 by Vanguard Press.
STAR WARS: THE ART OF DAVE DORMAN
This book was designed and written in two weeks for a company called FPG. The book was distributed by Random House and was the top selling book of June 1996 at Diamond Comic Distributors. It featured a collection of Dorman's STAR WARS painting up to that point, representing the early works from 1992 - 1996.
